Although several other outstanding fraternities already existed at Saint Joseph’s, none matched exactly what Brother Ferrara thought a fraternity should be. Brother Ferrara, however, still desired to be part of the Greek system. Brother Ferrara, who also served as the 1st Sage of the Chapter, aimed to create something unique and lasting on Saint Joseph’s campus.

After reaching out to several other fraternities, Brother Ferrara knew he wanted to start a Sigma Pi Colony. The reasons were obvious as what he sought aligned with Sigma Pi’s core values of brotherhood, scholarship, and service. With those ideals in mind, Brother Ferrara officially petitioned Sigma Pi. On March 26, 2006, a group of 32 men officially became a colony of Sigma Pi Fraternity International.

Brother Ferrara and other brothers’ hard work and dedication quickly paid off. On April 14th, 2007, our Chapter at Saint Joseph’s received its charter almost one year after becoming a colony. Since that point the Chapter has continued to grow at Saint Joseph’s. The spirit of fraternalism and brotherhood that Brother Ferrara sought truly resonated with other men on campus. Membership has gradually increased and the Chapter become more active on campus.

Today our Chapter continues to bring Brother Ferrara’s vision to Saint Joseph’s. Through our ACE projects, philanthropic efforts, intramural teams, and social functions, Sigma Pi has become one of the leading men’s only organization on campus. Our Chapter strives to make Saint Joseph’s a better place for our brothers and fellow Hawks everyday, while also promoting a fraternal culture among our members.
